PRIRAST: research for more resilient vegetable production

Climate change reaches a vegetable farm as operational risk: heat stress, uneven water availability, quality variation and a narrower margin for timing mistakes. PRIRAST brings research institutions, advisers and farms together so that proposed solutions can be tested against commercial reality.

From experimental result to production reality

A working farm combines soil, weather, irrigation, crop health, machinery, labour, harvest timing and economics at the same moment. That makes farms essential test environments: a solution must be measurable, but also repeatable and practical at production scale.

What the project addresses

1

sustainable and nature-friendly open-field production technologies

2

crop varieties and production systems adapted to climate change

3

more efficient use of soil, fertilisers and plant-protection inputs

4

modern plant evaluation, phenotyping and measurement methods

5

knowledge transfer between research, advisory services and farms

Kumer 1687 in practice

Kumer 1687 is publicly listed as a PRIRAST project partner. Our contribution is the production environment: questions that arise in day-to-day vegetable growing can be turned into structured trials, while results can be judged for operational feasibility. We will publish specific protocols and outcomes only once they have actually been carried out and documented.

Wider value

More resilient production

Useful knowledge can reduce seasonal variability when heat or water become limiting.

Better resource decisions

Measurement supports targeted choices rather than simply adding more inputs.

Transfer to practice

A farm reveals labour, machinery, timing and cost constraints that a small trial may hide.

Value beyond one farm

Documented lessons can help other growers, advisers and buyers ask better questions.

Why this matters

For buyers outside Slovenia, the value is not the project logo itself. It is a stronger evidence culture around risks that influence consistency, resource use and seasonal reliability. PRIRAST does not create a supply guarantee; it can improve the decisions behind one.
